Holy Week Schedule of Services 2017

  • A Message from Fr. Larry

    March 2017

    Dear Parishioners,

Who is the most important person you have met in your life? Was it a pope or a president? Was it an actor, author or an athlete? It’s exciting to be blessed with a rare opportunity to meet someone special. Often such a memorable encounter has the power to truly transform us. Being in the presence of someone that we admire, and who is a positive role-model for us, can have a lasting effect upon our life.

As we journey through the season of Lent this year, the Sunday gospel stories show us what happens when Jesus meets a woman at the well, a blind man, and guy named “Lazarus” who just died. Great things happen when Jesus is present. A woman is forgiven and freed from the paralyzing sins of her past. A blind man’s sight is restored and now he sees the world with the eyes of faith. Lazarus is given an unbelievable second chance to live his life again. All these stories show us that Jesus constantly offers mercy, healing and new life. There is a strong sense that after meeting Jesus, you will never be the same person.

Our Lenten challenge is to meet this same Jesus Christ today. Where will we find him? I believe we encounter the presence of Christ in our prayer and reflection, in the beautiful sacraments of our Church, in our fasting and charitable giving, in our service and sacrifices, in our corporal and spiritual works of mercy. All these things have the power to shape and form our spiritual life and deepen our relationship with the Risen Lord. Often our biggest challenge is to give Jesus the quality time and sacred space to enjoy his company.

Soon our parish will begin our celebration of Holy Week. It is that sacred time of year when we trace the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Our Catholic Church is blessed by the special liturgies that are powerful expressions of our faith. As we recall God’s love that raised Jesus from the dead, we trust that God’s love will continue to bring us new life and meaning.

I hope that you and your family will be able to join us for our Holy Week services and Easter celebrations. The Holy Week services and Easter Sunday Mass schedule are included in this mailing. Allow the Risen Lord to once again embrace you through the beauty of our prayer, worship and song. We welcome you, and especially those who are new to our parishes and those who might be visiting us, during these holy days.

May our hearts be filled with the loving presence of Christ,

    Fr. Larry Lisowski
    Pastor, ICSJ Parish
