J.O.Y. Youth Ministry
Welcome to J.O.Y. — Justice Oriented Youth—Youth Ministry! We are a Chicago youth ministry for ICSJ and St. Michael’s parishes devoted to the formation of young people according to Catholic Social Teaching and to service that promotes justice and community.
Who are we for?
ICSJ and St. Michael’s teens between 8th and 12th grade who are...
looking for a place to lend a hand, make friends, and do good to others;
interested in Catholic Social Teaching and what it means to make the world a more just and joy-filled place;
recently Confirmed and wanting to grow more in faith by participating in the life and mission of the Catholic Church;
in need of service hours;
just looking for something to do!
What’s Our Mission?
We strive to be...
young messengers of Jesus Christ, spreading the teachings of the Catholic Church;
a place where teens feel welcomed and at home, where everyone can be exactly who they are;
enriched, inspired, and called through our shared leadership and collaboration;
disciples of peace and promoters of justice;
examples to our global Church of how Christ intended His followers to live the Gospel by prioritizing service.
We will do this by...
devoting each month of the year to one of the Catholic Social Teachings;
participating in service opportunities within our parishes and larger communities;
engaging with each other and building community through intentional social gatherings (it isn't JOY if we're not having FUN...);
educating ourselves around social justice issues that concern our city and our world in order to expand our understanding and walk with those who have different life experiences than we do, because this will ultimately make the Church and the world better.
J.O.Y. Youth Ministry’s Youth Minister is Madison Chastain. Madison has her BA from Saint Mary's College of California (#GoGaels) in Theology & Religious Studies as well as English. She is currently pursuing her MA at The University of Chicago's Divinity School where she studies Moral Theology and Ethics, specifically around disability. She's got plenty of youth ministry (and a little bit of middle school teaching) experience under her belt!
