Our Mission Narrative
Reflecting upon and writing a unique Mission Narrative was a primary focus of the Parish Transformation Committee during the 10-week Program. In formulating the Mission Narrative, the Committee considered the many facets of ICSJ Parish: the 'pearls' of our parish (our two places of worship, our school, our homilies and music, our diversity, etc.), what we stand for, what is important to us, how we serve the community, and how we want to be portrayed to newcomers. All of these things were then related back to the mission and ministry of Jesus Christ, resulting in the following statement:
Committed, Dedicated and United in Christ
ICSJ Parish, located in Chicago’s Near North Side with two of the most historic churches in the Chicago area, is an inviting family of believers, sustained by the Eucharist and united in our deeply rooted Catholic faith.
To keep our parish family connected in these challenging times we are encouraged to rely upon, support, challenge, love, and serve all. As a “family of families” we need to be there for each other, just as our patron saints, Mary and Joseph were when they were called by God. Although at times frightened, lonely, and confused they did not lose hope or fear change. Rather they accepted change and continued on their faith filled journey with an open mind, breaking barriers, seeing opportunities, and witnessing amazing things.
ICSJ Parish is in a unique situation, embracing change and remaining a family united in faith which is centered around the Eucharist. Led by prayer and worship, our missionary spirit, and spiritual stewardship our commitment to accompany the poor, disadvantaged, and marginalized keeps us grounded in Jesus’ mission and ministry. Recognizing the importance of educating our minds and enriching our spirits we continue to deepen our faith and actively support our parish and school.
ICSJ Parish is blessed with many who are committed, dedicated and united in making this “family of families” a spiritual home where our doors are always open and the call to walk with others in faith is constant.
