The season of Advent begins November 30, and invites us to slow down and prepare our hearts for Christ’s birth. As our attention turns toward what we hope to find under the tree, our faith reveals a greater gift — a way of Living with Hope that comes from following Christ. Each week of Advent, the Gospel helps us to unwrap this beautiful gift of what it means to Live with Hope.

First Sunday of Advent

“Stay awake! For you do not know on which day your Lord will come.”

How can you be more intentionally “awake” to God in your life this Advent season? What distractions keep you from noticing God’s presence?

Second Sunday of Advent

“Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths.”

Is there something in your life, perhaps a habit, relationship, or thought pattern, you need to make right? How can you prepare your heart to make room for Jesus this Advent? Consider the sacrament of Reconciliation!

Third Sunday of Advent

Gospel: Luke 1:46b-55

Look for signs of Hope in our world.

When John asks if Jesus is truly the one they have been waiting for, Jesus points to the signs of healing and new life. Where in your life do you see signs of hope in your family, community, city and beyond?

Fourth Sunday of Advent

Gospel: Matthew 1:18-25

“They shall name him Emmanuel, which means “God is with us.”

We are constant reminders to one another that God is with us always. How can you continue to be Christ’s light in the world?
