CONGRATULATIONS, JODI!
Congratulations to Jodi Thyen who received the highly distinguished Christifidelis Award (which means (“Being Faithful to Christ”) from Cardinal Blasé Cupich at Holy Name Cathedral last Sunday. The award recognizes her great service to our parish community and beyond.
Cardinal Cupich in his homily on Sunday was right on the mark. He thanked the over 75 recipients from across the archdiocese for all that they do for their parishes. He also said, “You are a diverse group, but you all have something in common. You show up! Time and time again you show-up to support and help your parish. Plus, you often are asked to do the things that perhaps no one else wants to do. But you are there, time and time again, and our Church is blessed by your service and commitment.”

THE BIG DOG IS IN THE HOUSE!
It is my pleasure every Fall to celebrate the annual Pet Blessing in honor of the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi. His feast day falls on October 4th. St. Franics had a wonderful affection for animals. He saw them as a beautiful part of God’s creation that brings us so much joy and unconditional love.
Last Friday, I blessed a lot of dogs, and a few scared cats. Ironically, I noticed that the big dogs were very friendly, playful and childish. However, it seemed that some of little dogs had a bit of an attitude, and they wanted to make their presence known. They yapped a lot when I blessed them with the holy water. Thank God no one got bit.

I am grateful for all who were able to make it to church this weekend with the running of the Chicago Marathon taking place right in the middle of our neighborhood. Thank you for adjusting your personal schedules and making an extra effort to get to church.
Your presence is a precious gift. We are glad that you are here to pray with us!
