CONVERSATIONS IN THE SPIRIT
People throughout the Archdiocese of Chicago will have an opportunity to participate in important local listening sessions starting this Fall. This will be an opportunity to come together to pray and listen with one another and notice where the Holy Spirit is moving us.
It is important to Cardinal Blase Cupich that our Church functions and operates with a with sense of “synodality.” Now that is a big church word, but what it basically means is that we are, “walking together.”
You can watch a You Tube Video where Cardinal Cupich explains the hope and direction that we are being called to as a community of faith. To view his message, visit archchicago.org/synodality.
One of the first listening sessions will take place at St. Mary of the Lake on Saturday November 14th at 1:30pm. This parish is just a few blocks from Wrigley Field. Our bulletin also contains a flyer that has a list of other listening sessions that will be conducted from now into February throughout the Archdiocese of Chicago.
You can find a listening session that is closest to you. There are also sessions being held for different affinity groups. Feel free to register for whichever opportunity you feel most called to. You can register for a session and learn more about synodality and the synodal process by visiting archchicago.org/synodality.
Then on June 12, 2027, there will be an ecclesial assembly on the lakeshore campus of Loyola University – a celebration of how we have grown with one another through prayer, listening and learning together and how we might imagine what it means to be a synodal and listening Church in Chicago. Fruits gathered from these listening sessions throughout the year will be gathered into a synthesis report that will be passed on to the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, which in turn will gather reports from throughout the United States and send them on to a global gathering in Rome in 2028. This is truly a unique moment for our Archdiocese and our Church. May the Holy Spirit guide us as we “walk together” in these coming months.
MAY THEY REST IN PEACE
During the month of November, our Church traditionally remembers our loved ones who a have died, and all who have gone before us in faith. We are grateful for their love, and we are inspired by their journey of faith. We pray that they are now resting with God forever in heaven.
In the past year, we have celebrated the funeral Masses for the following parishioners.
John Fiedler
Kennon Thomas
Louise Nora
Beverly Flynn
Elizabeth Keyser
Thomas Comer
Dennis LaLiberty
Dorothy “Judy” Flynn
Joyce O’Keefe
Russell Iacono
Sheila McDonnell
Eternal rest grant to them O Lord, and may the perpetual light shine upon them.
May their soul, and all the souls of our faithful departed, rest in peace. Amen.
