THREE PILLARS OF GIVING
We often hear that we are called to be good stewards by sharing our time, talents and treasures. But what does this mean?
To really understand what stewardship is, the best place to start is to realize all that we are, and all that we have, comes to us as a wonderful gift from God our Creator. As stewards of God’s creation, we are invited to use our gifts wisely to build up God’s kingdom right here on earth.
Stewardship is one of the most foundational, and often overlooked, principles of a wise and impactful life. It goes far beyond finances. Stewardship is about managing everything that God has entrusted to us with gratitude, intention and purpose.
STEWARDSHIP OF TIME —
Time is one of our most valuable gifts from God. Everyone receives the same 24 hours each day. Time cannot be saved, recovered or replenished. It is one of the most precious things we have. Often, we are very careful how we spend it knowing the importance of using it well.
How do you manage your time? Is there a healthy balance between, work, family, rest, and living out your faith? How much time do you give to God? Do you have time to answer the different ways that God is trying to grab your attention? Do you have enough time to be present to God?
Our parish is blessed by many parishioners who generously give of their precious time to support the faith-life of our community. I automatically think of our wedding sacristans who sacrifice their Saturday afternoons to make sure that our weddings go smoothly and are beautiful and prayerful celebrations of our Catholic faith. I also think of those who graciously host Coffee and Donuts after Mass on Sundays. These are just a few examples of the good and faithful stewards who are right here in our parish every week.
STEWARDSHIP OF TALENT —
What unique talents has God blessed you with? How do you use these gifts not just for your personal gain, but to serve others and grow spiritually? These natural talents are not meant to be hidden or ignored but used for the benefit of others and to further the Kingdom of God.
I think of our parishioners who have been blessed with a beautiful voice or the talent to play a musical instrument, and how they graciously share that talent at our Sunday liturgies. I also think of our dedicated catechists who are blessed with the ability to teach our friends in our SPRED program. Not everyone has that gift. Thank God, they don’t hide it but are willing to share it with others who appreciate all they have to offer.
STEWARDSHIP OF TREASURE —
When it comes to “Stewardship of Treasure” we are invited to see that all that we have, including our money and possessions, are truly gifts from God. Through this, we are given the opportunity to use our resources for the common good. Often there is a sense of cheerfulness that comes with giving because we are grateful for all that God has already provided us.
I am thankful for all the ways that parishioners financially support our parish. I know that there are many good charitable appeals that you are frequently asked to donate to. Thank you for remembering ICSJ in your giving.
Your Sunday contributions help us to do all the good things that we do. If you currently do not financially give to our parish, please consider making some type of donation on a regular basis.
Even if your Sunday donation is a small one, it can still make a huge difference in the big picture of running the operations of our parish. $5 or $10 dollars a week, or even $20 a month all adds up. If everybody does something, then our parish will be able to do many things.

This weekend I will be speaking very briefly at all of our Masses. I will be inviting everyone to prayerfully consider the various ways that they can spiritually offer their time, talents and financial support that will enhance the spiritual life and vitality of our parish.
God has truly blessed us in many ways. Our parish is at its best when we graciously share these blessings with one another.
